Pasadena needs to find more local water supplies as our imported water source is becoming increasingly limited. As a part of the Pasadena Non-potable Water Project, Pasadena Water and Power has hopes to construct a new pipeline that would bring much needed water from the Los Angeles-Glendale Water Reclamation Plant. The water would be recycled water for non-potable use.
This recycled water would provide more than 3,000 acre feet annually to Pasadena, which is about 10% of the city’s current water supply. The non-potable use of water includes commercial landscape irrigation, dust control, and industrial cooling.
PWP has done extensive outreach and has held several community meetings to date to inform the community and to receive feedback. Community input on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) has been received to develop the final version of the EIR, which is now available for public review.
Hard copies of the EIR can be found at the following libraries: Central Library, Linda Vista and the La Pintoresca library, which detailed information about the benefits of this new water source and other details can be found online at www. PWPweb.com/recycledwater .
PWP encourages residents to attend the public hearing to be held on Monday, February 1 beginning at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, located at 100 N. Garfield Avenue, second floor.
