I wanted to bring the beach to my home even though I live 30 minutes from the coast. Coastal design should be light and breezy. From bamboo to wicker, there is an array of quintessential coastal materials to choose from so you can create a beach house look while maintaining your own personal style.
For my living room, I wanted everything light and bright. I stuck with all natural materials and utilized taupe and blue as the accent colors. I also decided to add gold and silver metallic details in the decor to imitate shimmering ocean waves. If you want a pop of color in your home you can add a palette with punch by using tropical colors such as coral red or palm frond green.
I chose a natural fiber sisal rug that I purchased from Overstock.com for $230. My pillows, from Home Goods in Pasadena, helped add a pop of the ocean blue to tie in the coastal living colors I wanted, without having to spend a lot. Additional accent items that I purchased from Home Goods were a gold mirrored circular tray for the coffee table $40, a decorative coral paper weight $12, two blue and white textile ottomans/$49 each, and beach glass and porcelain vases $10 each. With a palette of maritime blues and dune-grass, this living room creates an easygoing coastal feel reminiscent of the beach. The framed vintage travel posters that I purchased from AllPosters.com take me away to the places I’ve been. To mimic this airy and inviting space, I decorated with soothing hues, seaside accessories, like coral, sea shells, blown glass, and seagrass furnishings.
