Located just north above Pasadena, and nestled against the San Gabriel foothills, is the charming city of Altadena. The city of Altadena feels close to nature because it’s surrounded by the Arroyo Seco to the West, the Angeles National Forest at it’s northern boundaries, and Eaton Canyon on the eastern boundaries. Although Altadena feels pulled away from city life, it’s just a 5 minute drive to all of the urban attractions that Pasadena has to offer, and only a short drive to downtown LA.

Much of Altadena’s residential homes were built before the 2nd World War, although a neighborhood called La Viña was developed by Brookfield Homes in 2000 and is a 275-home project situated in the foothills of Altadena. The gates to the La Vina community is located at the top of Lincoln Avenue.

Points of Interest
The historic Mount Lowe Railway was a scenic railway that once carried passengers to any of four resort hotels high in the San Gabriel Mountains above Altadena and Pasadena. Although the mountains and the remains of the railway are not strictly in Altadena, the most direct trail to the sites, the Sam Merrill Trail, starts in Altadena at the top of Lake Avenue, and leads to Mount Echo, about 3 miles up the trail. The Mount Lowe Railway site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
